The Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), CP Ifeanyi Uche Henry, PhD, has called on Nigerians to place greater trust in the nation’s data protection framework.
He made the call while speaking at the 2026 National Data Privacy Summit, themed “Privacy in the Era of Emerging Technologies: Trust, Ethics, and Innovation.”
The Director, who underscored the critical importance of data in the modern world, described it as indispensable to institutional growth and sustainability. While stressing that “Data is the new oil; data is life,” Uche, who said data is essential for organisations to thrive, noted that its protection remains paramount.
He highlighted the increasing global focus of criminal networks on data, noting that the prevailing trend in crime worldwide is the targeting and theft of sensitive information.

He further stated that the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), in collaboration with the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC), the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and other relevant stakeholders, is working tirelessly to ensure that data privacy remains a top national priority.
While showcasing recent successes recorded by the NPF-NCCC, the Director assured citizens of the unwavering commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to strengthening the Nigeria Police Force. He affirmed that the IGP is dedicated to equipping the Force with a robust and superior criminal database to proactively combat all forms of crime, including cybercrime.
CP Uche also commended the National Commissioner of the National Data Protection Commission, Dr Vincent Olatunji, for his commendable efforts in advancing data protection in Nigeria.
