The Northern Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Support Group has raised concerns over what it described as a deliberate attempt by some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to frustrate preparations for the forthcoming National Convention slated for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Coordinator, Hon. Yusuf Abubakar, the group condemned the involvement of certain party officials in ongoing legal battles aimed at halting the convention.
The group described their actions as “a dangerous distraction and a betrayal of collective efforts to reposition the PDP ahead of future elections.”
The group particularly accused the National Secretary, National Legal Adviser, and National Organising Secretary of allegedly conniving to “scuttle all arrangements already put in place for a successful convention.”
According to the statement, “Their support for unnecessary litigation at the Federal High Court, Abuja, is a clear indication of a plot by former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his loyalists to weaken the party through incessant court actions and internal sabotage.”
The Support Group reiterated that the National Convention remains the highest decision-making organ of the party, and a key step toward rebuilding trust, unity, and electoral strength.

“Dragging the party’s internal arrangements to court by some leaders in Abia and Imo States, backed by a few NWC members over leadership disagreements is a disservice to the PDP and a betrayal of millions of members who yearn for a stronger and united opposition capable of defending democracy,” the group said.
While urging all stakeholders to embrace internal conflict resolution mechanisms, the group reaffirmed its support for the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, and the convention planning committees to ensure a transparent and inclusive process in Ibadan.
The group also cautioned former PDP National Youth Leader, Hon. Udeh Okoye, against spreading “lies and propaganda” against the party’s leadership after allegedly defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“It will be in the best interest of peace for Governor Peter Nduibuisi Mbah, Hon. Okoye, and others who have abandoned the PDP to focus on their new political homes rather than sowing discord and creating negative noise against the party,” the statement added.
The group expressed optimism that the PDP would emerge stronger and more united after the Ibadan convention, noting that the exercise would mark a new chapter of renewal and stability within the party.
To him, “Our party will come out stronger and united after the Ibadan Convention without fear or intimidation.”
