The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group has commended governors of the 19 northern states for their unanimous decision to establish a N1 billion monthly joint security intervention fund aimed at tackling terrorism, banditry and other security threats across the region.
Jacob Edi, Kakaki Bassa-Nge, Convener of the group in a statement yesterday described the initiative as a resolute and strategically coordinated step that demonstrated genuine regional leadership.
The group noted that the collective commitment of the governors signalled a renewed determination to confront insecurity with coherence, unity and purpose.
However, the group also issued a strong call to the Federal Government to urgently publish the names of individuals, organisations and networks suspected of financing terrorism in Nigeria.
To this group, the government has the intelligence and institutional capacity through mechanisms, such as the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Bank Verification Number (BVN) system, National Identity Number (NIN) and other monitoring agencies, to trace and expose those bankrolling violent groups.
“Full transparency is critical, as terrorism has caused widespread loss of lives, destruction of infrastructure and deep socio-economic instability.
“Those who underwrite these atrocities have undermined national cohesion for far too long and continued secrecy only emboldens them,” the statement read in part.
The group further acknowledged the renewed national security momentum under President Bola Tinubu, noting that intensified military and intelligence operations across the country are already yielding visible improvements.
