The Forum of Northern Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have re-elected Dr Usman Ali Buhari Gwandu from the Northwest CSOs Regulation Council into the National Technical Committee (NTC).
The General Secretary of the Coalition of NGOs in Kebbi State (CONKS), Mr Maliki Attah Peter, confirmed this in a statement made available to reporters in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, “at the just concluded virtual meeting of the Conference of Northern CSOs Forum comprising of civil society leaders from the 19 Northern states and the FCT, Dr Usman Buhari Ali Gwandu, from Kebbi State has been re-elected to represent the North West geo-political zone in the National Technical Committee (NTC) on CSOs Self-Regulation, which has now been transformed to the National CSOs Self-Regulation Council.
“The Chairman of the Northern CSOs Conference, Amb. Ibrahim Waiya announced Dr Usman Gwandu, who is the Chairman of Coalition of NGOs in
Kebbi State, being re-elected by four states out of the six states that participated in the election from the North West region.
“Dr Gwandu was also described to exhibit capacity and provided able
representation of the region over the past two years. He is to serve for a fresh term of two years.”
The General Secretary explained that, in 2021, he was first appointed at the Regional Multi-Stakeholder Consultation Workshop meeting to represent the North West geo-political zone in the National Technical Committee on CSOs Self-Regulation Framework Development in Nigeria.
He noted that, CSOs Self-Regulation Council serves as the credible and effective driver of change for sustainable development in Nigeria stressed that, it remained a platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue for an improved, effective, and inclusive regulatory environment for the operation of CSOs in Nigeria.
“This has representatives across all 36 states and the FCT. The CSOs Regulatory Platform (CRP) is comprised of an information service, which hosts a compendium of extant laws, helpful information about CSOs, a national public directory and a compliance framework which involves verification/certification and compliance support via an information advisory service, aka hotline, where CSOs may receive assistance with attaining compliance.
