Normalcy has returned to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital after the murder of two persons sparked clashes between youths of Opolo and Okutukutu communities.

The crisis had forced the Bayelsa State Police Command to deployed 10 different tactical teams to quell the violence between youths of Opolo and Okutukutu communities in their renewed land dispute crisis.

The crisis also snowballed into an attack on a Police team deployed to restore order and the destruction of a police drone.

Trouble had started when one Chief Ezekie Gabriel went to the police control room to report the killing of two persons whose lifeless bodies were at Opolo community.

The youths of Opolo who concluded that the persons were murdered by Okutukutu youths barricaded major roads and streets in Opolo and went about fishing for Okutukutu for reprisal.

Things deteriorated when a Police team sent to restore order was attacked by suspected Opolo youths who accused the police of bias.

According to the aggrieved youths, the police team dispatched to the area immediately started firing teargas targeted at Opolo youths while leaving out Okutukutu youths.

Some suspected hoodlums irked by the action of the police attacked the Police team in charge of the Phantom Drone and hijacked it.

However, a reinforcement of Police operatives was able to restore order and also recovered the drone with some of its vital components already destroyed.

A visit to the troubled area on Tuesday revealed that the popular Opolo market which was hurriedly shut has been reopened as well as schools, businesses and shops in the area.

Sources said several Police patrol teams kept vigil at the area throughout Monday night and Tuesday morning to ensure violence did not erupt.

The source said the Police team left Tuesday morning and would likely return Tuesday evening regardless of the meeting scheduled in Bayelsa State Government House which would have in attendance representatives from the two warring communities.

A police source said the police would spare no effort to ensure the arrest of those that attack the Polce team and destroyed its drone.

He said already the two suspects arrested have given useful statement that would help the police in tracking other suspects.
