Nobody died during Osun Amotekun recruitment exercise

Ondo: Akeredolu approves recruitment of 350 Amotekun corps
Enugu State

From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

The Board Chairman of Amotekun Corps in Osun State, AIG Wale Abass (Rtd), has described as untrue, claims that three persons died in the on-going recruitment exercise of the agency.

He also denied the rumour that members of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were slotted into the exercise, saying that the allegations were baseless and malicious.

Speaking with journalists on Friday, at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ede, the training venue for the newly recruited Amotekun Corps, Abass explained that those sent home were people with health challenges and also those who were not selected for the training that managed to gain access to the camp premises.

A video circulating on the social media claimed that three persons died and some PDP members were brought into the camp while some people in the camp were sent out.

He said: “The accusations that we engaged in partisan behaviour during the recruitment process are not only baseless but also malicious.

“The recruitment exercise was open, transparent, and merit-based, with no consideration given to political affiliations. The process was designed to ensure that only the most qualified individuals were selected to serve in our esteemed organisation.

“The 1,000 cadets who were invited to the camp underwent a rigorous selection process. They first submitted their application forms online, which were then reviewed for completeness and accuracy. Following that, we invited all applicants for further scrutiny, including submission of academic credentials and verification of results.

“Only those who passed these stages were invited to undergo physical screening and fitness tests. It was only after passing thorough these assessments that the selected candidates were invited to report to the camp,” Abass said.
