A Lagos-based cleric, Rev. Paul Adeyemo, has called on Nigerians to intensify prayers for purposeful leadership and national development ahead of the 2027 general elections.qq
Adeyemo made the call at the third edition of the annual Ministers’ Encouragement Day organised by Bible Pattern Church, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos, where he stressed the need for religious leaders to mobilise their congregations to pray for the country’s progress.
He noted that clergy members had a significant role to play in promoting national development, given the influence they wield and the confidence the public reposes in them.
“Nigeria needs purposeful leadership, and I think we clergymen have a lot of work to do in this regard. We need prayers for the betterment of the country, and religious leaders are people the masses look up to,” he said.
The event, held on Saturday, brought together hundreds of Christian ministers under the theme, “Physical and Spiritual Engagement,” to encourage religious leaders, recognise their contributions and strengthen their commitment to ministry.
Adeyemo added that initiatives designed to support and encourage ministers could help broaden their perspectives and motivate them to remain dedicated to their spiritual responsibilities.
The programme featured the distribution of gifts and essential items to Christian ministers by the convener, Pastor Dr. Zacheaus Ogunsanya, a Lagos-based cleric.
Items distributed included clothing, shoes, bags of rice and ministerial equipment such as microphones and audio mixers.
The initiative, which entered its third edition, was designed to appreciate ministers for their service and provide support to those in need, while encouraging others to contribute to the growth of Christian ministries.
Speaking at the event, Apostle Sesan Kukoyi commended Ogunsanya for sustaining the initiative and urged other individuals to emulate the gesture.
Describing the programme as commendable, Kukoyi said such efforts could encourage more people in their Christian faith and inspire greater support for religious leaders.
Also speaking, Pastor Mrs. E. Ogungbemi encouraged women to maximise their ministerial gifts and remain active in Christian service.
Ogungbemi, who said she regularly gave back to fellow Christians through her weekly fellowship, noted that witnessing a larger initiative of this nature had further motivated her to do more.
Among the clerics who attended were Rev. S.A. Oladele, Archbishop J.A. Osa-Oni, Bishop N. Adekolu, Rev. G.A. Ola, Pastor Simon Okpanachi, Apostle Paul Ndeobi and Bishop E. Ajibola, among others.
The annual Ministers’ Encouragement Day is part of efforts to strengthen Christian ministry by recognising the sacrifices of religious leaders, supporting those in need and inspiring greater commitment to service.
