The Director General of National Orientation Agency Mallam Issa -Onilu has said that the current sensitization on National Values Charter spearheaded by the Agency will be sustained to ensure that Nigerians are assimilated with national values and the message of the national anthem .
Addressing a press conference in Uyo ,Akwa Ibom state capital on the Nationwide Sensitization on Values Charter And National Anthem , Onilu disclosed that unlike other programmes of the Agency which suffered from funding in the past , the ongoing sensitization which has already commenced till December will be sustained .
Onilu who was represented by the Director Behavioural Modification in the Agency Barr Tessy Nnalue described the National Values as a social contract between government and the people .
“Today, we gather to reaffirm our commitment to the National Values Charter, a blueprint for a united, prosperous, and harmonious Nigeria and also our reverse to the old National Anthem “Nigeria We Hail Thee” which is a symbol of our shared identity and heritage. Its lyrics reminds us of duty to promote peace, unity and progress.”
Onilu listed national values charter as embodiment of core principles that define Nigerians such as
tolerance, respect, understanding, democracy, human rights, and good governance.
He said these values remains the foundation upon which to build the nation.
“The National Values Charter is divided into two broad sections:
The Nigerian Promise (7 core promises made by the country and represented by all elected and appointed leaders which are Equality, Democracy, Entrepreneurship & Employment,Peace & Security, Inclusivity, Freedom & Justice, Meritocracy” he said
