The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stressed that there is no going back on the deployment of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System(BVAS) for voter – accreditation and transmission of.results to INEC Result Viewing Portal (IreV) on election day.
Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Zango A Abdu disclosed this, Thursday, during a stakeholders forum meeting while speaking on their preparations towards the 2023 elections.
According to him also, there would be no Incident Form that would enable illegible persons to vote using other people’s Permanent Voters Card during the elections.
The newly posted INEC boss stressed that the Independent National Electoral Commission was committed to ensuring a free, fair, transparent and credible elections come 2023
On PVR and CVR, he recalled that the Continuous Voters Registration exercise led to the registration of 12, 298,944 Nigerians as new voters. He , however, noted that after a vigorous clean up of the data, using the Automated Biometric Identification System, a total of 2,78,756 representing 22.6 percent of those on the list were identified as ineligible registrants.
He explained that the registrations were invalidated on account of irregularities such as double/multiple registrants, underaged persons and outrightly fake registration.
Ambassador Abdu disclosed that as a consequence, the number of valid registration for Kano State stood at 5,927 565 even as he indicated that they would display the hard copy of the register of voters for each registration area and local government for a period of two weeks to give room for scrutiny, claims and objections by citizens.
He urged the political parties to ensure their campaign are issue – based and are devoid of violence, saying that so far there was no report of political violence during their campaigns.
He also tasked them to study and pay attention to the provisions of the Constitution, the Electoral Act, the Police Act and the Public Order Act for proper and peaceful conduct of political party campaigns in the state.
In attendance at the stakeholders Forum meeting are the Kano State Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services, political parties, Civil Society Organisations and the media.
