Yusuf Dantalle has said the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) will not operate under the influence of political godfathers, insisting that the party is committed to building an egalitarian structure rooted in internal democracy and independence.
Dantalle, who also serves as Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC), stated that while the party acknowledges the need for resources to grow and remain competitive, it will not compromise its autonomy for financial or political patronage.
He explained that recent alliances involving some political figures, including governors such as Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, were driven by the need to strengthen political positioning ahead of elections, especially amid uncertainties surrounding legal and structural considerations.
According to him, the agreements that led to their involvement in broader political arrangements were reached collectively by party stakeholders, with all parties welcomed into the fold under clear terms that preserve their freedom to contest elections.

Dantalle stressed that the APM remains focused on building a party system where decisions are driven by collective interest rather than the dictates of powerful individuals.
“It is the kind of egalitarian political party we want to build,” he said, noting that inclusiveness and fairness remain central to the party’s ideology.
He maintained that despite political collaborations and alliances, the APM would continue to safeguard its independence and ensure that no individual or group exerts undue influence over its internal processes.
The party chairman reaffirmed that all members, whether old or newly integrated through alliances, retain equal rights within the party structure, especially in contesting for elective positions.
Dantalle added that the APM’s long-term goal is to establish a stable political platform that prioritises merit, transparency, and equal opportunity for all members.
