The Nigerian Army has told brigade commanders of various formations that they have no reason for not leaving a legacy in their areas of responsibility.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, gave the charge at the commissioning of a block of 12 flats for 6 Military Intelligence Brigade (MIB) at the Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, Rivers State yesterday.

Major General Emekah reminded them that the operations of the Nigerian Army have changed and every brigade commander should be proactive.

He declared: “To everybody here, the  operations of the Army has changed and there is no excuse not to deliver. Don’t wait, the very day you assume command, start working.

“It’s better you are leaving and didn’t complete your work than leaving when you have not done anything.

“There are so many ways that you can impact on your command, both the physical aspect and otherwise. When you leave, people will see what you have done.

“This is to the officers, don’t wait and don’t think that you must have something big before you can start. Think of it and start and support will come.

“We must take advantage of the maneuver commanders. We have more brigades, talk to them and they will support you to do whatever you can do.”

The GOC expressed that the accommodation would serve as a moral booster to the troops of 6 Division, Nigerian Army and members of their families.

Major General Emekah stated that the Nigerian Army places priority on the welfare of its personnel, especially accommodation, to ensure they perform optimally without distraction.

He, however, commended the Brigade  Commander, Brigadier General David Umaru, for the initiative, and urged the beneficiaries to use the facilities prudently.

“This accommodation is a morale booster. So, this is in fulfilment of nature’s wants. And in the Army, this is something that we owe dear in our  hearts and it is inline with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and he has done that consistently.”

Earlier, the Commander, 6 Military Intelligence Brigade,  Brigadier General David Umaru, said the state of the building before  was quite pathetic, and the occupants suffered losses, especially during torrential rainfall.

A beneficiary soldier’s wife, Mrs Duniya Rose, while speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, thanked the Commander 6 MIB and the GOC for renovating their accommodation.

She said the thoughtful initiative would greatly improve living conditions of the soldiers’ families.

Mrs Duniya expressed: “This further reflects your deep concern for soldiers’ welfare and dignity of soldiers. The newly renovated facility would boost the morale of our husbands and enable them serve the Nigerian Army with renewed pride and dedication.
