The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has fixed September 21 to 23, 2026, for the conduct of its Directorate-Level Promotion Examination, months after funding constraints and delays raised concerns over the fate of the exercise.
The local leg of the examination will hold across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while the foreign leg has been scheduled for October 10 in four countries.
The development comes against the backdrop of concerns over the delay in conducting promotion examinations for federal civil servants. Earlier reports had linked disruptions in the public service promotion process to funding constraints, including the non-release of statutory funds amid the budget impasse.
The FCSC, in its latest announcement, has now provided a definite timetable and designated examination centres, signalling the commencement of arrangements for the 2026 exercise.
According to the Commission, the local examination will take place from Monday, September 21, to Wednesday, September 23, for candidates across all applicable grade levels.
The examination will be conducted in Lafia, Nasarawa State, for the North-Central zone; Kaduna, Kaduna State, for the North-West; Bauchi, Bauchi State, for the North-East; Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for the South-South; Ibadan, Oyo State, for the South-West; Enugu, Enugu State, for the South-East; and Abuja for the FCT and Federal Government headquarters.
The Commission directed candidates to report to their designated centres by 7:00 a.m. prompt, warning that they must sit the examination only at the venue indicated on their examination identification cards.

It urged all accredited candidates to verify their examination details ahead of time and make adequate arrangements to arrive at their centres early.
For candidates outside Nigeria, the foreign leg will hold on Saturday, October 10, at centres in Ottawa, Canada; London, United Kingdom; Beijing, China; and Cairo, Egypt.
The Commission said the arrangements were designed to ensure a “transparent, orderly and credible” promotion examination process.
The FCSC also directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Permanent Secretaries, Accounting Officers and Chief Executive Officers to ensure that all affected officers are informed of the contents of the circular and comply with the examination arrangements.
The latest timetable was contained in Circular Ref. No. FC.6243/GOV/2026/VOL.III/22, dated September 8, 2026, and signed by the Chairman of the Commission, Tunji Olaopa.
The statement announcing the examination dates and centres was signed by the Head of Press and Public Relations for the Commission, Ibraheem Zakariyya.
The FCSC had also taken steps earlier in the year towards the 2026 Directorate-Level Promotion Examination, including the accreditation of candidates, indicating that preparations for the exercise had commenced before the latest timetable was released.
