From Adanna Nnamani, Abuja
The NNPC Limited on Friday visited the 650,000 barrels-per-day Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, pledging deeper collaboration aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and driving industrial growth.
According to a statement from NNPC, its Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, led a high-powered management delegation on a facility tour of the refinery complex owned by the Dangote Group, where both parties held high-level discussions on expanding operational and commercial ties.
Speaking during the visit, Ojulari described the alliance between the two energy giants as strategic and forward-looking, noting that it would unlock synergies across assets, infrastructure, capital and markets, while also providing visibility into their business relationships.
He commended the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, for what he called vision and perseverance in delivering the refinery project, which is considered one of the largest single-train refineries in the world.
Ojulari said the collaboration presents vast opportunities for expansion beyond refining, including upstream operations, trading, shipping and gas supply.

According to him, the partnership aligns with NNPC’s downstream growth objectives and its commitment to boosting domestic refining capacity to reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.
The NNPC boss also expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for policy clarity and investor-friendly reforms in the oil and gas sector, which he said have created an enabling environment for large-scale investments and partnerships to thrive.
In his remarks, Dangote said Nigerians would benefit the most from the strengthened relationship between the two companies.
“Nigerians will be the beneficiaries of the synergy between Dangote Group and NNPC Ltd, because our collaboration will achieve economies of scale and unlock value across markets,” he stated.
NNPC Ltd currently holds a 7.25 per cent equity stake in the Dangote Refinery, a strategic investment widely seen as reinforcing its position in Nigeria’s evolving downstream landscape.
