The Chairman of the Nigeria National League, George Aluo, has assured that teams participating in this season’s Super 4 will earn more as the league moves to improve its rewards system.

Speaking during a radio programme, Sports salsa with Mitchell Obi, Aluo said the league has grown from a time when winners got nothing to a stage where prize money is now guaranteed and set to increase.

“Let me go back memory lane three, four years ago when you win the NNL and you don’t have any prize but when the board that I lead came on stream we were able to get an insurance company to sponsor the league and put N5m on the trophy so that was the beginning,” he said.

He added that last season’s champions benefitted from that improvement.

“Last year the winner Warri Wolves pocketed N5m but this year I must tell you that we are going to increase that prize money from N5m to something very big and all the four teams that are coming to Ikenne are going to get participation fee, that I can assure you.”

The NNL chairman also revealed that details of the new prize package will be made public at the official draw.

“And all of these we are going to announce at the draw but for the first time we are going to hold a colourful draw ceremony that will be live on television. We are discussing with some radio and television stations to take that draw live and it’s going to be at Marriott hotel from 11am to 12 noon on the 24th of this month which is next Friday” he said

The Super 4 tournament, which will determine the overall champion of the league, is scheduled to take place from May 1 to May 9 at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State.
