Nnamdi Kanu: Court reveals date for judgment

Nnamdi Kanu in court

The Federal High Court in Abuja has revealed the date for judgment in the terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Justice James Omotosho fixed November 20 on Friday, ruling that Kanu Kanu failed to open his defence, having exhausted the six days allocated to him by the court to conduct his defence.

According to Omotosho, having failed to utilise the opportunity granted him to conduct his defence, Kanu cannot claim to have been denied the constitutionally guaranteed rights to a fair hearing.

The development comes after the judge gave the embattled IPOB leader until November 5 to defend the alleged terrorism charges levelled against him or waive the right to do so.

Kanu had stated that he would not enter any defence as he was convinced there is no valid charge, known to any extant law, that is pending against him.

While giving his ruling, Omotosho told the court that the documents recently filed by Kanu were on order and would be considered at the time of judgment.
