Two female students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), who were abducted during a security incident on campus on Sunday, September 6, have regained their freedom.
The University Management confirmed their release in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 10, 2026, by the University Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu.
According to the statement, the students are currently receiving medical care and psychological support at the University Medical Centre.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, has visited the students at the Medical Centre and interacted with them.

Management commended the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies for their prompt intervention, which led to the safe release of the students.
The University also assured students, staff, parents and the entire University community that additional security measures are being sustained across the campus in collaboration with relevant security agencies.
Management further urged members of the University community to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
