The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Benue State chapter, has opposed the federal government’s circular on the review of allowances for medical and dental officers in the federal public service, describing it as not only injurious but also demeaning.

Rising from their emergency congress on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the Benue NMA, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chuwan Martins, called on the federal government to swiftly implement the demands of the association or risk a total shutdown of health facilities across the country.

The statement read, “Congress expressed displeasure with the federal government’s injurious and demeaning circular on the review of allowances for medical and dental officers in the federal public service.

“NMA, amidst the profound pain its members suffer due to poor remuneration and reckless actions of the federal government, aligns completely with NMA National for a total and comprehensive shutdown of the health sector at all government facilities.

“NMA calls on the federal government to act swiftly by implementing the demands of the association in order to avert this imminent industrial action,” the statement added.
