The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigeria Police Force have agreed to strengthen ties to fight crime and crimiality in Lagos State.

The agreement was reached yesterday during a visit to Lagos State Police Commissioner Moshood Oluhundare Jimoh,  by Controller NCS in charge  of Murtala Muhammed International Airport; the Lagos Command Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe and the  Controller of NIS, Comptroller D.O. Adebambo .The visit was with a view to strengthening ties in the fight against transborder crimes.

The duo who were at the Command Headquarters Ikeja said they were around to re-echo their individual collaboration with the NPF especially, in the fight against transborder crimes and importation of prohibitive goods respectively.  According to the customs’ boss, “As a matter of fact, our purpose of being here today is to build on our existing synergy, which we have been enjoying. And we can’t do it all alone. We can’t do it all alone. The robust synergy has to continue. Particularly now that the issue of insecurity is coming out of the gate. Recently, within my command, we had a seizure of some military accoutrements. And most of this I stand to assist. Based on the equal eyes of my officers and men. And based on instructions that 100% examinations must be carried out. And by so doing, we were able to get those items and seize them. And not only that, we were able to trade the source to Turkey. We perpetrated those warrants and they were prosecuted and imprisoned. These are the areas which we need more synergy. Because we have just only one father, which is this country, Nigeria. And we just have to do it together.

On his own,the Immigration Controller also said, “First of all, let me congratulate you on your assumption of office at the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command. I know it’s a very big task, and you have about 15,000 or more officers under your command. More than 18,000. It is important that I visit here because until 1963, Nigeria Immigration Service was an alien section with the Nigeria Police Force. And it’s like an homecoming to me. So, I’ve had your tour of duty. I know you are a very versatile officer.

“You have been to so many places. And I’m glad to know that your background is public relations. And I want to appeal to you that it is important that we synergize for the security of Lagos State.

“And it is important as co-travelers, we are uniformed personnel. The primary aim of all the uniformed personnel is the security of the nation. Nigeria Immigration Service is tasked, like you know, with the management of migration as well as border management. In border management, we have new vistas of a new way of doing things, contrary to what was in the past. But to curb the issue of the incessant and the unmitigated migration of irregular migrants to Nigeria, the service introduced e-border. And what is e-border? At the border areas, there were installations of masks. And on the masks, we have cameras that are installed on those masks.”

The host, CP Jimoh, therefore, pledged the Command’s  cooperation as they strived to ensue a safer Lagos State.
