The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze and thunderstorms across different parts of the country between Monday, January 19, and Wednesday, January 21.
The forecast is contained in NiMet’s Weather Outlook issued by its Central Forecast Office.
According to the agency, Day 1 (Monday, January 19) will see moderate dust haze over parts of Kebbi and Kano states in the northern region, with horizontal visibility expected to range between 2 and 5 kilometres.
Other northern states are expected to experience sunny and hazy skies throughout the day.
In the central region, moderate dust haze with visibility of 2–5 kilometres is anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Niger State, while the remaining states in the region would experience sunny and hazy conditions.
For the southern region, NiMet predicted sunny skies with a few cloud patches, alongside the possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

On Day 2 (Tuesday, January 20), the agency forecast slight dust haze over parts of Kano and Kebbi states, while other northern states would remain under sunny and hazy skies.
The central region is expected to experience sunny and hazy conditions, with isolated thunderstorms likely over parts of Plateau State during the afternoon and evening hours.
In the southern region, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of cloud and afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rain over parts of Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
For Day 3 (Wednesday, January 21), NiMet forecasts sunny and hazy skies across both the northern and central regions throughout the day.
In the southern region, sunny conditions with a few cloud patches are expected, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms likely over parts of Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
The agency has advised Nigerians to take necessary precautions as dust particles remain in suspension, warning that people with asthma and other respiratory conditions should be particularly cautious.
The agency also urged motorists to drive carefully during rainfall, advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective operational planning, and encouraged residents to stay updated through regular weather information issued by the agency.
