The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced plans to commence nationwide ward-level enrolment for the National Identification Number (NIN) beginning Monday, February 16, 2026.
The Commission, in a statement issued by its Spokesperson, Kayode Adegoke, on Wednesday, said the move is in line with a presidential directive mandating it to take NIN registration to the grassroots across all wards in the country.
According to NIMC, the exercise is aimed at ensuring the comprehensive registration of every Nigerian citizen and legal resident, including children and adults, into the National Identity Database.

The Commission stated that the enrolment will be conducted free of charge as part of the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, geared towards promoting inclusive governance, national development and improved access to identity services.
It urged Nigerians and legal residents who are yet to obtain their NIN to take advantage of the exercise, calling on families to enrol their children, parents and wards within their communities.
NIMC noted that the ward enrolment schedules, which will guide the rotational movement of licensed front-end partners and its staff, are available on the Commission’s website.
“To this end, the Commission has started engaging stakeholders at the national, state, and local government levels with sensitization and awareness campaigns on the importance of, benefits of, and use of NIN. State governments, heads of local governments, traditional rulers, community leaders, and market associations, as well as faith-based organizations, are being consulted to ensure a smooth and seamless registration across all the wards nationwide. Members of the public are hereby encouraged to come out en masse to take advantage of this ward-to-ward enrollment exercise to enroll their children, parents, wards, and family members within their community,” it added.
