Kanyinsola Ajayi achieved a personal best record on Monday by winning the men’s 100m at the Meeting International Sotteville-lès-Rouen in France in 9.92 seconds.
22-year-old Ajayi took off from the fifth lane at the Stade Jean Adret with a reaction time of 0.156 seconds, edging out opponents that included five sub-10-second runners.
With the recent feat, the Nigerian rewrote the meeting record previously held by Keston Bledman from Trinidad and Tobago since 2015.

Bledman’s 10.02 seconds remained for nine years until Ajayi’s smooth racing set a new record bolstered by a legal +1.7 m/s tailwind.
Coming in second was Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme in a time of 10.04 seconds, while Senegalese Sarr followed in third place with 10.10 seconds.
Ajayi’s record places him among the fastest men in the world this year, tying him with Seun Ogunkoya and Udodi Onwuzurike for fourth place on Nigeria’s all-time list, behind only Soji Fasuba (9.85 seconds), Divine Oduduru (9.86 seconds), and Godson Oghenebrume (9.90 seconds).
