Many Nigerians are feared dead or missing after a rubber boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of Libya, the International Organisation for Migration has said.
The IOM disclosed on Monday that the vessel, which was conveying 55 migrants and refugees, overturned north of Zuwara on Friday, leaving at least 53 people dead or missing.

Only two Nigerian women were rescued during a search-and-rescue operation by Libyan authorities. One of the survivors said she lost her husband in the incident, while the other lost her two babies.
According to the IOM, the boat departed Al-Zawiya around 11 p.m. on February 5 and began taking in water about six hours into the journey before capsizing.
The organisation said the tragedy brings the number of migrants reported dead or missing on the Central Mediterranean route in 2026 to at least 484, warning that traffickers continue to expose migrants to deadly crossings in unsafe boats.
