Police in London have launched an intensive search for a Nigerian national, Temitope Segun, after he reportedly escaped from a prison transport vehicle in South East London, prompting a major security operation across several communities.
Authorities said the 25-year-old inmate was last seen near Woolwich High Street at about 6:40 p.m. on Monday. Investigators believe he has links to Plumstead, Abbey Wood and Woolwich, areas where search efforts have been concentrated.
At the time of his escape, Segun was reportedly dressed in a black jacket, black trousers and black trainers.
The Metropolitan Police have urged residents not to approach him if sighted but to immediately contact emergency services with any information that could assist the investigation.
Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning, who is leading the operation, said officers are working relentlessly to locate and return the fugitive to custody.

Police have appealed to anyone with information about Segun’s whereabouts to call 999, quoting reference number 2270/10JUN. Anonymous reports can also be submitted through Crimestoppers.
The escape has renewed attention on custodial security procedures in the United Kingdom, particularly following a number of recent incidents involving inmates who managed to evade custody under varying circumstances.
Authorities say investigations into how Segun escaped are ongoing, while efforts to track and apprehend him continue.
