Two Nigerian health informatics specialists, Adepoju Adekola and Adepoju Daniel have been honored with Jim Miller Student Scholarship Award at the Rural Health Association Conference in Indiana, USA.

According to a media statement recently, the event was held at the 27th Annual Indiana Rural Health Association (IRHA) Conference.

This prestigious, merit-based award, named after a prominent advocate for rural health, is one of Indiana’s most selective honors, reserved for exceptional emerging leaders dedicated to advancing healthcare in underserved communities.

Adekola asserts in the statement, “The Jim Miller Award is more than a scholarship; it is a call to continue serving communities through innovation, compassion, and data-driven solutions.”

The statement further disclosed that the IRHA Executive Director of Government Affairs, Dan Hardesty personally presented the awards during a ceremony that highlighted the recipients’ professional achievements.

Daniel added, “This recognition highlights the vital role of health informatics in tackling inequities. By connecting clinical care with social support through data, we can empower rural communities to not only survive but thrive.”

The Adepojus have built distinguished careers that blend clinical medicine, public health, and digital innovation.

Trained in Ukraine and licensed to practice in Nigeria, both physicians began their journeys at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), where they received recognition for clinical excellence and professionalism from the Association of Resident Doctors.

The statement noted that Daniel later served as Clinical Research Medical Officer for the World Health Organization ACTION III Trial, a multi-country study supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to improve outcomes for preterm newborns.

While Adekola advanced to Medical Officer in Charge at Safe Parturition Specialist Hospital, where he was entrusted with overseeing clinical services, leading patient care, and helping the hospital maintain its mission of safe deliveries and high standards of care.

In the United States, both physicians pursued advanced training in health informatics to address healthcare inequities.

Their academic contributions include peer-reviewing abstracts for major global conferences, including the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA).

Additionally, they serve on the IRHA Policy & Legislative Committee, helping to shape rural health priorities in Indiana.

They have served as judges for prominent events like the HTN Health Tech Awards and the HOSA International Leadership Conference.

Beyond their individual projects, both scholars are internationally recognized as thought leaders and evaluators of healthcare innovation.
