The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said it has arrested a Nigerian criminal alien, Rotimi Oladimeji, convicted for mail and wire fraud.

In a terse X post on Monday, the ICE said the convict was arrested in New Orleans during an immigration enforcement exercise.

He was also ordered to pay more than $1 million in restitution.

The post reads, “Nigerian criminal alien Rotimi Oladimeji’s criminal history includes mail and wire fraud.

“He was ordered to pay $1.1M+ in restitution before ICE New Orleans arrested him.”

In December 2023, US District Judge Rodney W. Sippel sentenced Oladimeji, who helped scam nearly $1.2 million out of an American woman, to three years in prison and ordered him to repay the money.

In a statement, the US Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Missouri, said then-38-year-old Oladimeji assisted other scammers in Nigeria and the US prey on the victim, who thought she was in an online romance with a veterinarian and animal behaviorist living in St. Louis, Missouri.

“He received 20% of the funds he generated”, the statement reads in part.

Oladimeji was at the time of his conviction placed on deportation but remained in the US since completing his jail term.
