General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has promised to strengthen military cooperation in Africa. He plans to do this through the first-ever Africa Chiefs of Defence Summit.
Musa called the summit a key moment for Nigeria. It shows the country’s role as a top player in Africa’s defence and security scene. He shared this on Thursday while setting up a committee to plan the summit, set for June in Abuja.
He said the committee’s work will build a strong base for the event. The goal is to grow defence ties and highlight Nigeria’s leadership in military diplomacy across the continent.

“I urge you to approach this task with diligence, ensuring that every detail is meticulously planned and executed in line with the best standards,” he said. “This summit has to be a grand and remarkable event, one befitting of Nigeria’s status as a continental giant.
“It will bring together military leaders from across Africa and we must ensure it reflects our nation’s excellence, strength and organizational prowess. You must think innovatively, embrace creativity and incorporate fresh ideas that will make this event not just successful but truly unforgettable,” he added.
Musa told the committee to work with key agencies and people to make the summit a success. He stressed the need for clear communication and quick feedback to keep everything on track. He also asked them to be efficient, flexible, and ready to solve any problems that come up.
Major General Olufemi Akinjobi (Rtd), the committee chairman, spoke earlier. He thanked Musa for trusting them with the job. He called the summit a smart idea from the CDS. “It was about time the African defence chiefs begin to speak to themselves,” he said. He promised the committee would do their very best to make it a standout event.
