Sentiments of Nigeria’s future greatness echoed yesterday at the 40thanniversary and thanksgiving meeting of the Ikeja Prayer Breakfast Fellowship which was held at Ikeja Airport Hotel, Lagos.
The non-denominational gathering which is organied under the auspices of Christian Laity of Nigeria (CLN) featured formerAnglican Bishop of Lokoja Province of the Church of Nigeria, Bishop George Bako (retd);National Chairmen of CLN, High Chief Brown Mene; CLN’s National Co-coordinator, Barrister Eriwu Molajo; Chairman of Ikeja Prayer Breakfast Fellowship, Dr Abayomi Ogunbekun and former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Femi Caulcrick now a pastor, among other clergy men and women.
It was a moment of prayer of intercession for Nigeria and an opportunity to thank God for sustaining the prayer meeting which was started during the Nigerian Civil war when concerned Nigerians gathered to seek God’s face for a country in turmoil.
Cleric after cleric foresaw a prosperous future and a new Nigeria – a godly country on the road to restoration – a country whose disgrace God would turn to honour – a country whose hope is anchored on blessed assurance of greatness, its people driven by their unflagging faith and utter dependence on God.
Speaking on the occasion, High Chief Mene traced the history of the body to civil war days and later asked: “At a time like this, who can live without God?”
Buttressing Nigeria’s ordination for greatness with an allegory he said: “If Africa were to be a gun, the North will be its butt, South African its nozzle. Then considering our position on the continent, Nigeria is its trigger.” He urged Nigerians to look up unto God, urging them to be the solution rather than the problem.
Chairman of Ikeja Breakfast Fellowship, Dr Ogunbekun, solicited prayers for Nigeria at its difficult moments. He recalled that “we come here every Tuesday to pray for people, families, government and Nigeria.”
He noted that the group was formally inaugurated in 1980 under the chairmanship of late Justice Adetunji Adefarasin, a onetime retired Chief Judge of Lagos State, and gave thanks that it now has cells in Festac, Surulere, Ilupeju, Yaba Ikoyi and Ikeja among other places.
