Nigeria delivered a commanding performance to defeat Mozambique and book their place in the AFCON 2025 knockout stage, ending the Mambas’ historic first appearance beyond the group phase with a 4-0 win.

The Super Eagles became the first team to score four goals in a single match at the tournament, taking their total tally to 12 goals — the highest so far. Senegal trail closely with 10 goals after confirming their own quarterfinal spot with a 3–1 win over Sudan.

Ademola Lookman opened the scoring after a slick team move, finishing confidently following a precise cut-back from Adams. Victor Osimhen doubled Nigeria’s lead soon after, continuing his return to form with his second goal of the tournament. Adams then capped an outstanding all-round performance by adding a goal of his own, having already provided an assist and played a key role in Nigeria’s attacking play.

Nigeria maintained relentless pressure throughout the match, with Iwobi, Lookman, and Osimhen repeatedly testing Mozambique’s defence. Substitute changes saw Onuachu, Chukwueze, Dele-Bashiru, and Onyedika enter the game as Nigeria comfortably managed proceedings. Onyedika, who scored twice in Nigeria’s final group match against Uganda, nearly added another late goal.

Mozambique struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace and movement, despite brief moments of resistance and a handful of counter-attacks. Heavy rain in Fez added difficulty to the conditions but did little to slow Nigeria’s momentum.

With the win, Nigeria underlined their status as the tournament’s most potent attacking side and advanced confidently, while Mozambique bowed out after a memorable but short-lived knockout debut at AFCON 2025.
