Nigeria can end insecurity in six months If government acts – Ndume

Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has said Nigeria has the capacity to end insecurity within six months if the Federal Government demonstrates strong political will and takes decisive action.

Ndume made the assertion on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he expressed concern over escalating attacks in the North-East and other parts of the country.

According to him, ending insecurity is not a matter of complaints but of commitment to properly training, equipping, arming, and motivating the military.

“It is not about complaining. If the President and the Federal Government are serious about this, we can end this thing in six months. All we need is to train our soldiers, equip them, arm them very well, and then motivate them,” he said.

The senator lamented continued losses among military personnel, including senior officers, warning that repeated attacks on security forces reflect deeper operational weaknesses that must be urgently addressed.

Ndume also blamed the worsening security situation on the inconsistent implementation of previously approved strategies, insisting that the government must “walk the talk” to achieve results.

He further called for increased reliance on intelligence gathering, technology, drones, and specialized military expertise rather than overdependence on foreign intervention.

“What we need is intelligence. We need air support and expertise. We already have capable hands on the ground; they just need equipment, ammunition, and motivation,” he said.

Ndume added that countries adopting technology-driven warfare models, such as drone deployment and centralized command systems, have recorded faster results, arguing that Nigeria can achieve similar outcomes with proper investment.

He also commended Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for his efforts in stabilising parts of the state amid ongoing insurgency challenges.
