Mr Nnaghe Obono Itam has officially taken over as the 34th Commissioner of Police (CP) for Anambra State Police Command. He assumed duty on May 13, 2024, succeeding CP Aderemi Adeoye, who retired after 35 years of service.

CP Itam, born in Yakkur Local Government Area of Cross River State, joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent. He holds a BSc in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Calabar and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Port Harcourt.

Throughout his career, CP Itam has served in various states across the country, holding positions such as patrol and guard officer, Divisional Police Officer, and Commanding Officer of 25 Police Mobile Force Squadron. He has also served in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in various capacities, including Head of Counter-Terrorism and General Investigations, Zonal Director/Head of Operations, and Director of Internal Affairs.

As Deputy Commissioner of Police, he served as Coordinator of Police Service Delivery, SERVICOM, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Investigations and Operations. Before his posting to Anambra, he was Commissioner of Police in charge of General Investigation Force Criminal Investigation Annex, Kaduna.

CP Itam has received specialised training in advanced detective work, squadron command, tactical leadership, and senior police leadership. He is a recipient of numerous awards and honours, including the United Nations Medal of Service.

The new CP seeks the support of the public in combating crime and is committed to implementing proactive policing strategies and community policing to ensure the safety of lives and property in Anambra State.
