The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has handed over the construction site for a Faculty Library and Veterinary Clinic at the newly established Faculty of Agriculture of the Gombe State University (GSU), Malam Sidi Campus.
The handover, conducted on Monday at the Faculty of Agriculture site, formerly Government Secondary School, Malam Sidi, marked the commencement phase of the project, with the NEDC serving as the executing agency.
The Gombe State Coordinator of the Commission, Usman Mohammed, led the exercise and officially transferred the site alongside relevant project documents to the contractor to enable immediate mobilisation and commencement of construction works.
Mohammed stated that the intervention aligns with the Commission’s mandate to strengthen critical educational infrastructure in the North East, noting that upon completion, the Faculty of Agriculture is expected to rank among the leading agricultural faculties in the country.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Ahmed Guli, commended the state governor for providing the enabling environment and institutional support that facilitated the project’s take-off.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of GSU, Prof. Sani Ahmed Yauta, applauded the NEDC for what he described as a timely and strategic intervention. He also acknowledged the sustained support of the Gombe State Government towards the growth of the University, assuring that the institution would provide full cooperation to ensure seamless execution and timely delivery of the project.
The Faculty Library and Veterinary Clinic are expected to boost academic delivery, research capacity, and hands-on training in agriculture and veterinary sciences, while reinforcing Gombe State University’s role in advancing agricultural development in the state and beyond.
