Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a Lagos-based pastor, Afolabi Hodonu, and his wife, Success, after recovering 11kg of skunk from their vehicle at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Seme border.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the couple was apprehended on April 2 while travelling in a Honda Pilot SUV. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the illicit drugs concealed in hidden compartments.

“The arrest of the couple followed the apprehension of a fake security agent, Sunday Samuel, 35, at the same checkpoint on Monday 30th March, while conveying 24.5kg skunk from Seme border to Lagos,” the statement reads.

The arrest followed the earlier interception of a suspected fake security agent, Sunday Samuel, who was caught transporting 24.5kg of skunk along the same route.

In a related operation, NDLEA said it dismantled a cocaine trafficking syndicate exporting drugs to the United Kingdom. The crackdown began at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where 3.10kg of cocaine hidden in tins of palm kernel extract was intercepted.

Subsequent operations led to the arrest of multiple suspects, including the alleged syndicate leader, King Arinze, at a warehouse in Isolo, Lagos, where materials used for concealing drugs were recovered.

“At his warehouse at 11, Ola Ifa Street, Bucknor, Isolo where NDLEA operatives recovered 886 tins of palm kernel extract prepared for drug concealment; industrial tools including a sealing machine, tin openers; paint sprays; 52 grams of cannabis sativa and a pack of hand gloves,” he said.

“Arinze has since confessed to personally draining the oil from the tins to conceal the cocaine.”

The agency also reported a series of arrests and seizures across the country, including drug suppliers linked to bandit groups, large tramadol consignments, and multiple skunk recoveries, as part of its ongoing nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking.
