The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) says it has successfully trained about 33,692 youths across Nigeria within the last three months.
Out of this number, 5,532 have been resettled under the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative.
TheDirector General of the Directorate, Silas Agara, disclosed this in Calabar during the resettlement/closing ceremony of the agency’s skills acquisition programme, which commenced across Nigeria in December 2024.
Represented by the Cross River State Acting Coordinator of the agency, Anthony Moloa, the DG said the programme was designed to create employment opportunities among Nigerian youths, women, and physically challenged persons.
“The Renewed Hope Employment Initiative is designed to create employment opportunities, support the establishment of small-scale enterprises, promote agricultural productivity, improve rural infrastructure and provide transient jobs, which would in-turn foster economic growth and empower our communities.
“The Initiative commenced on 6th December, 2024, while training of selected beneficiaries started on 9th December, 2024.
“Over the past 3 months, the Directorate has successfully trained Thirty-Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Ninety-Two (33,692) unemployed Nigerian youths, women and Persons Living with Disabilities.

“These youths were trained with in-demand skills across Vocational Skills training, entrepreneurship and business management training, Agricultural Skills Training and activities within the Public Works sector in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“This initiative has culminated into the launching of resettlement of the trained beneficiaries, the goal of which is to empower participants to become not only self-employed but employers of labour.
“A total number of Five Thousand Five Hundred and Thirty-Two (5,532) beneficiaries will be resettled with loans and starter packs nationwide to enable the establishment of their own businesses,” he said.
The Coordinator of the National Productivity Centre in Cross River State, Emeka Okoli, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the resettlement tools given to them.
The event also featured the symbolic presentation of cash as well as various resettlement items, including sewing machines, pressing irons, and hair drying machines, among others, to the beneficiaries.
A representative of the beneficiaries, Agnes Arop, thanked the Federal Government for the economic empowerment through the NDE and promised to make good use of the items.
TheSun.ng reports that the programme was anchored on three core pillars comprising skills development, resettlement, and job creation.
