The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General AK Ibrahim, has praised the Nigerian Defence Academy Officers’ Wives Association (NDAOWA) for its outstanding contributions to humanitarian service and community development both within the Academy and the wider society.
Major General Ibrahim gave the commendation during a recent courtesy visit by the President of NDAOWA, Hajiya Halimatu Sadiya Ibrahim, who led members of the association’s executive to the NDA headquarters, Afaka.
He lauded the association’s efforts to support widows, orphans, and dependents of military personnel, describing Hajiya Halimatu’s leadership as “exemplary” and instrumental in elevating NDAOWA’s visibility and impact.
“NDAOWA has continued to play a critical role in fostering social and economic stability in our community,” Major General Ibrahim said. “The Academy remains committed to supporting the association’s programmes, particularly in areas of human capacity development and infrastructural improvement.”
In her remarks, Hajiya Halimatu congratulated Major General Ibrahim on his appointment as the 33rd Commandant of the NDA and outlined the association’s plans to expand its reach through initiatives in education, youth empowerment, character building, and physical fitness.

She used the opportunity to advocate for a school bus to ease transportation for pupils within the Academy, discounted healthcare schemes for widows, and job opportunities for NDAOWA members. She also called for the revival of the Mammy Market in Afaka and the reopening of the NDA Skills Acquisition Centre to boost economic activity and vocational training.
Hajiya Halimatu highlighted some of NDAOWA’s recent milestones, including participation at the Africa Economic Summit hosted by the Office of the President, the launch of the association’s official social media page, and the award of a scholarship to an orphan, Master Adamu, who lost his family in a road accident.
The association also recently conducted an outreach visit to wounded soldiers at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, as part of efforts to honour the sacrifices of serving personnel.
NDAOWA is set to roll out new initiatives such as holiday arts and crafts programmes for children in partnership with Creatives Park and AIMS, a seminar on sex education and personal health for female cadets, and workshops on leadership, resilience, and community-building for women.
