The Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) has admonished boxers to adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession, even as the boxers were urged to be dedicated to their game.
This clarion call was made by the President Nigeria Boxing Board of Control President, Dr. Rafiu Oladipo during the 2023 seminar organized for boxers, coaches, managers and promoters at the Brai Ayonote Gymnasium national stadium Surulere.
Dr. Oladipo in his speech ‘Ethics of Boxing’, said the seminar is coming at a time when the sport is bringing a befitting rise and positive image to Nigeria.
“You will agree with me that boxing was the very first sport that put Nigeria on the world sports arena.
“This seminar is a very important avenue to educate our boxers on the changing dynamics of the sport so that they will be at par with other boxers around the world,” Oladipo said.
The resources persons at the well-attended seminar include former Commonwealth Games Super Lightweight, Segun Ajose, who talked on Discipline.
NBBofC Secretary General, Remi Aboderin who spoke on Boxing rules, Boxing and medical health, handled by Dr. Tajudeen Sule and Dr. Chike Ilukwe.
Speaking on the rules of the sport, Aboderin highlighted that boxing is a very risky sport that requires boxers to fight in their weight classes.
“A coach is different from a master and it is imperative for coaches to stick strictly to the right weight classes for the right boxers.
