The Accident and Investigation Bureau (AIB) says in a bid to boost safety in the Nigerian sky, it would be conducting a special training on accident investigation and prevention for officials of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Presidential Air Fleet, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Air Force and some of its staff involved.
According to the Commissioner/CEO of the AIB, Mr. Akin Olateru, the training would last for four days and also cover such topics as managing large-scale accident and incident investigation, unraveling the cause of fire outbreak in an aircraft, as well as investigating the cause of all cases necessitating a pilot calling for an emergency help on an aircraft .
The training is slated for January 16-19, 2018 and would be held under the auspices of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA).
The training is an offshoot of the Second meeting of the BAGAIA Commission, from December 13 to 15, 2017, in Praia, Cape Verde where Olateru proposed to the BAGAIA Commission to host the Air Accident/Serious Incident Report Writing Training.
Nigeria, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are members of the BAGAIA accord group.
“Capacity building is so vital to the AIB’s job functions. Capacity development, infrastructural improvement, system and process re-engineering remain our focus in making sure AIB contributes meaningfully to aviation safety for the common good of all,” said Olateru.
“This guarantees that all reports and safety recommendations issued by the AIB are hoisted on the certainty that they do not miss out any vital subject matter in their investigations that impact safety,” he added.
