Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Senator Okey Ezea, the lawmaker representing Enugu North Senatorial District, describing him as a rare figure in Nigerian politics who was calm, wise, and unwaveringly supportive.
In a heartfelt tribute issued on Wednesday, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said the late Ezea was not only a colleague but a quiet pillar of strength whose words and prayers sustained her through some of her most difficult moments in the Senate.
“Rest in peace, Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea. You were a good man — wise and gentle. Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments, and I will miss you in chambers,” she wrote.
She praised Ezea’s sincerity, humility and principled approach to public service, noting that he conducted himself with uncommon restraint and grace in an environment often defined by political tension. His ability to foster unity across party, ethnic and religious divides, she said, earned him broad respect within and outside the Senate.

Until his passing, Senator Ezea was widely regarded for his forthright contributions on national issues, his commitment to justice and equity, and his dedication to improving the lives of his constituents. Colleagues frequently commended his soft-spoken yet impactful interventions during debates, as well as his consistent display of humility and conviction.
His death leaves a significant void in the Senate, where his calm presence and thoughtful leadership were deeply valued.
