Stakeholders in Nasarawa State have commended the former Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Prof. Muhammad Sani Haruna, for his ground breaking achievements in technological innovation, youth empowerment, and industrial development. They spoke at a reception for Haruna in Lafia.

A seasoned broadcaster, Mukhtar Saeed Ciroma, said: “One of his accomplishments is the establishment of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Complex at the Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI), Enugu. This facility, equipped with modern computerised manufacturing machines, has enhanced the production of scientific equipment, machinery, and automobile spare parts. It also serves as a training hub for young Nigerians, equipping them with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

“He expanded NASENI’s research institutes from nine—achieved over its 34-year history—to 23 within a decade, significantly boosting the agency’s capacity. Another milestone was his role in pioneering Nigeria’s first electronic voting system, designed to improve transparency and efficiency in elections.

“With our democracy facing challenges, this innovation could be a game-changer in our electoral process. Prof. Haruna deserves commendation for this remarkable feat.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic NASENI, under his leadership, invented a mechanical ventilator through reverse engineering a World Bank-donated sample.”
