In a daring operation late last night, the Nigeria Police Force successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt along the Nasarawa-Keffi highway.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel in a press release on Thursday stated that the police received a distress call alerting them to hoodlums blocking the highway near Kemu village, with intentions to abduct unsuspecting travellers.

Reacting to the unpleasant development, police operatives, in collaboration with the military, swiftly raced to the scene, upon arrival, a fierce gun battle ensued between the officers and the criminals, resulting in the neutralisation of one suspected kidnapper,” he said.

Nansel said an AK47 rifle, loaded with eleven rounds of live ammunition, was recovered from the scene, highlighting the grave threat posed by the perpetrators.

“Findings revealed that the kidnappers had stopped two Sports Utility Vehicles, aiming to abduct the occupants,” DSP Nansel added. However, thanks to the timely intervention of the joint security forces, tragedy was averted, and the situation was swiftly brought under control.

Expressing condolences to the family of the deceased suspect, Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, affirmed the police command’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all road users and residents of the state.

“This achievement marks a significant step towards attaining that goal,” CP Nadada emphasised, reiterating the commitment of law enforcement to uphold peace and order in Nasarawa State.
