The joint Union of Magistrate Judges, state counsels and draft men in Nasarawa State, have threatens industrial action if the state government does not implement the harmonised condition of service law in the state.
Members of the union include Magistrates Association of Nigeria (MAN), Area Court judges Association of Nigeria (ACJUMAN), law officers Association of Nigeria (Loan) and draft men of Nigeria.
Speaking after an expanded meeting, on Tuesday, in Lafia, spokeperson of the group, Barr. Victor Vincent, told newsmen that the law which was passed by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly in 2015 provide that from the commencement of the law, salaries and employment benefit of these groups of people be harmonised.
According to him “The law stated that, the entering point into state service for a Magistrates, Draftmen and State’s Counsels is level 12 and the terminal point is level 16.
“The entry point for Area Court Judges and Members is grade level 8 and the terminal point is grade level 15,” he added.
He further explained that, the law has also stated that members are entitled to ‘car loans, Robe Allowances, Furniture Allowances, Research Allowances, Hazard Allowances, Inducement Allowances and Two Domestic Staff among others.
The spokesperson said that they are currently not enjoying all these benefits and want the government to implement the law urgently in order to ensure industrial hormany.
Similarly, The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Lafia Branch has given the state government 30-days ultimatum to implement the law or face legal action.
This was contained in a notice signed by NBA chairman in the state Mudi Dikko and served to the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.
