The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for criticising the administration of Governor Nasir Idris while its gubernatorial candidate, Abubakar Chika Malami, is still facing corruption charges in court.
Acting Chairman of the APC in Kebbi State, Alhaji Adamu Mudi, stated this at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi.
It could be recalled that the ADC, at a press conference by its Director-General of the Campaign Council, Hon. Sani Tadurga, accused the APC government of mismanaging public funds since its inception.
While reacting, Mudi explained that it was the people of the state, the Governor’s hard work and the projects executed by his administration that would speak for Governor Idris, not the noise of the ADC.
According to him, “the people of Kebbi are not blind. They can see where public money has gone. Under Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, virtually every sector has been touched. On roads and urban renewal, the administration has dualised the Birnin Kebbi-Ambursa Road, expanded, beautified and provided solar-powered streetlights across Birnin Kebbi, Yauri and other centres, completed and furnished the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ultra-Modern Secretariat Complex inherited from the previous administration, and advanced work on the Koko-Mahuta-Dabai Road, Argungu Old Bypass, Ahmadu Bello Way in Gwandu and other critical links. Drainage, solar street lighting and public-space upgrades have followed. These are not abstract claims. They are roads people now travel on.”
Mudi also explained that the governor had employed more teachers, rehabilitated schools, and procured more than a million textbooks. Over 2,000 teachers have been recruited.
He noted that 30 general hospitals and primary healthcare centres across the state had been renovated and upgraded, stressing that additional general hospitals had also been constructed.
“These are the facts on the ground. When Governor Idris sought the mandate of the people, he promised to be fair, accountable, development-driven, and responsible with the trust placed in him. Three years on, the record is there for any honest observer to inspect.
“To ask ‘where did the money go?’ in the midst of this volume of delivery is not accountability. It is a disservice to the people of Kebbi State.”
The APC Acting Chairman recalled that when the ADC gubernatorial candidate, Abubakar Chika Malami, left office as the Minister of Justice, he had become one of the most visibly wealthy figures in the country without a commensurate, publicly credible explanation of how that wealth was built.
“As we speak now, he remains in court. Nigerians have been waiting for answers. The courts have already acted on assets. In July 2026, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the final forfeiture to the Federal Government of 48 properties worth billions of naira linked to Malami, his family and associated companies, after finding that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had established the reasonable suspicion required by law and that the respondents had failed to prove lawful sources of the funds used to acquire them.
“The assets — hotels, educational facilities including university sites, residential and commercial properties, land and other holdings — are spread across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano and Kaduna. Interim proceedings had earlier covered 57 properties valued in the region of N213 billion.
“Nine assets were discharged from the final order; 48 were not. Instead of asking the Kebbi State Government to account for funds that have been turned into roads, hospitals, schools and housing that citizens can see and use, the ADC would do better to help its principal figure in Kebbi answer the questions Nigerians have been asking for years: the source of the enormous wealth now subject to forfeiture and criminal proceedings, and the remaining.”
