Victor Osimhen looks set to end his post AFCON holidays, as Napoli has set a Friday arrival date for the Super Eagles striker to return to Naples from Nigeria.
Osimhen helped Nigeria to secure a silver medal after losing 2-1 by hosts Ivory Coast in Sunday’s AFCON final in Abidjan, despite going up in the first half.
After his nation’s disappointment, Osimhen will be back in Naples between Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, given that Napoli are in action against Genoa on Saturday afternoon, it is unlikely that African Player of the Year will be involved if he arrives in Italy on the same day.
It will still be a tight turnaround if Osimhen arrives on Friday, as there will probably not be an opportunity to train with the team heading into the Genoa match.
Recall Osimhen also played 200 minutes between the final and semi-final and had been taken off with a slight injury concern at the end of the quarters.
That being said, there are no new concerns over Osimhen’s fitness according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio.
Walter Mazzarri, however, could wait until the visit of Barcelona in the Champions League next Wednesday to bring Osimhen back into the fold.
