Napoli have appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach following the departure of Antonio Conte, ending weeks of speculation over the Serie A champions’ managerial position.
The Italian club confirmed the appointment on Friday, announcing that Allegri has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.
In a brief statement, Napoli said: “Napoli welcomes Massimiliano Allegri as manager of the first team.”
The 58-year-old returns to Serie A management after a short spell with AC Milan, where he was dismissed at the end of the 2025/26 season after the club failed to qualify for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League.

Allegri is one of Italy’s most decorated coaches, having enjoyed successful spells with Juventus between 2014 and 2019, and again from 2021 to 2024, winning multiple Serie A titles and domestic trophies. He also previously guided AC Milan to the Serie A title during his first stint at the club between 2010 and 2014.
His appointment comes after Conte’s exit despite leading Napoli to the 2024/25 Serie A title. Conte is now widely expected to become the next head coach of the Italian national team.
The former Italy midfielder previously managed the Azzurri from 2014 to 2016, guiding the team to the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2016, where they were eliminated by Germany in a penalty shootout.
Napoli’s coaching change is part of a wider managerial shake-up across Serie A, with nearly half of the league’s 20 clubs appointing new managers ahead of the 2026/27 season. AC Milan have turned to Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim, while Maurizio Sarri has taken charge of Atalanta, and Fabio Grosso has been named Fiorentina manager.
