Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández from Chelsea for £125m, equalling the British transfer record on a dramatic deadline day.
The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract with City, ending his three-and-a-half-year spell at Chelsea after the London club accepted a huge fee for the midfielder.
Fernández becomes one of the most expensive players in British football history, matching the £125m Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak a year ago.
“I could not be happier to be here, and I am ready for the challenge of helping City continue winning trophies. This is a club built for success,” Fernández said after completing the move.
He added: “I pride myself on continually improving my game. Anyone who’s worked with me will know how hard I train every single day and how much I put into matches. I give absolutely everything and I can promise Manchester City that will continue now I’m here.”

The move reunites Fernández with City manager Enzo Maresca, who previously coached the midfielder at Chelsea. City moved for the Argentina international after their midfield underwent major changes during the summer.
The club have now spent £327m on midfielders this summer, following the arrivals of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m and Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille for £86m.
Fernández joined Chelsea from Benfica for £106.7m in January 2023 and scored 31 goals during his time at Stamford Bridge. He helped the club win the Conference League and Club World Cup.
His relationship with Chelsea deteriorated in recent months, with the midfielder reportedly seeking a move away from the club since March. He was also banned for two matches after speaking out following Chelsea’s Champions League defeat by Paris Saint-Germain.
Fernández’s departure marks one of the biggest player exits in Chelsea’s recent history and gives City another major midfield addition as they strengthen their squad for the new season.
