- The case has been adjourned to June 25
The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned until June 25 a case against celebrity bartender, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, for alleged abuse of the Naira.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Okechukwu on April 17 on a three-count charge. The charges relate to allegations of spraying and tampering with Naira notes during a social event at the Eko Hotel in Lagos.
Okechukwu pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N10 million.
At the previous hearing on May 2, defence counsel, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), informed the court that the parties were exploring an out-of-court settlement. He applied for the matter to be settled pursuant to Section 14(2) of the EFCC Act.
Following this, the defence counsel applied for a withdrawal of their preliminary objection, which the court granted without objection from the prosecution.
The case was adjourned until June 5 for a report on the settlement discussions. However, the defence counsel has since requested an adjournment.
The case is now scheduled for mention on June 25.
