Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, has called for a stronger alliance with the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) to elevate the insurance sector to new heights. Speaking at the recent investiture ceremony of Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, the 52nd President of CIIN, Omosehin expressed optimism in her leadership and the potential for transformative growth within the industry.

Omosehin lauded the outgoing President, Mr. Edwin Igbiti, and the Governing Council members for their dedication to advancing insurance education and professionalism. He emphasized the critical role that leadership plays, especially in navigating the current economic challenges and opportunities. He noted that Mrs. Ilori, with her extensive experience, notably as the former Director General of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), is well-positioned to lead CIIN in fostering a culture of excellence, growth, and innovation.

Reaffirming NAICOM’s commitment, Omosehin assured that the insurance industry under his stewardship would align with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and the ambitious goal of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030. He stressed the importance of collaboration between NAICOM and CIIN in developing skilled professionals essential for this economic transformation. Omosehin also highlighted the need for a positive public perception of the insurance profession, calling for deliberate efforts to communicate the industry’s narratives effectively.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Ilori acknowledged the collective effort required to transform the sector, urging the industry veterans and her predecessors to support her leadership. She emphasized the urgency of implementing strategic plans that have been developed over the years to revitalize the industry. Ilori expressed her commitment to ensuring the sector emerges stronger from the current economic challenges, leveraging the collective wisdom and experience of industry professionals.

She also called for inclusivity, inviting young professionals and members of the diaspora to contribute to the industry’s growth. Ilori articulated her vision for CIIN to not only be a leader in Nigeria but also to stand out in the global professional landscape. She expressed her determination to build a robust and resilient insurance industry, aligning with the broader economic objectives of the country.

As the new CIIN president, Ilori’s leadership marks a pivotal moment for the Nigerian insurance industry, promising a future of increased professionalism, ethical standards, and educational development. Both NAICOM and CIIN are poised to work together in fostering a more transparent and confident insurance sector, striving to build a brighter and more prosperous future for all stakeholders.
