The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed 828 cartons of contaminated Bioflex infusions.

The agency disclosed this in a statement shared on Facebook.

According to NAFDAC, this followed a consumer complaint from Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Kaduna State.

NAFDAC said the complaint involved the presence of suspended particles in the infusions, supplied by Biomedical Company Limited, Ilorin, Kwara State, prompting an investigation by the agency’s North-West Zonal Office (NWZ).

“Laboratory analysis revealed that the products failed sterility tests, posing potential health risks.

“With the approval of the Director-General of NAFDAC, the NWZ oversaw the forfeiture and subsequent destruction of the contaminated infusions,” the statement reads in part.

The agency disclosed that the products were removed from their secondary packaging, crushed, and buried, while the cartons were burnt to ensure complete disposal.

“NAFDAC remains committed to ensuring the safety and quality of medical products in Nigeria and urges the public to promptly report any suspicious products for swift regulatory action,” the agency added.
