The Nigerian Air Force, on Thursday, said it has provided free medical services for 4,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps at the Bakassi Peninsula.
The four-day medical outreach according to the NAF, is aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of the displaced Nigerians from the disputed Bakassi Peninsula, who are taking refuge at the Ikot-Effiom and Ekpri-Obutong IDP camps in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross-River State.
Aside providing free medical services to the displaced persons, the NAF, also attended to indigenes of the host community who trooped out in their thousands to benefit from the programme.
A statement by NAF, director public relations and information, Air Commodore Adetokunbo Adesanya, listed the free medical services offered to include wide range of medical tests, treatment for malaria and blood pressure in addition to fasting random sugar level and eye tests.
He said “Other medical checks carried out on the IDPs included those for various diseases and infections while treatment and drugs were administered freely to the patients. Also, treated mosquito nets were distributed to women and children.
“Those with complicated medical cases were referred to the NAF medical facilities in Calabar for secondary healthcare management”.
