The Agcoms International Trading Limited, an authorised John Deere dealer and partner of the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), has noted that expanding access to modern agricultural equipment remains one of the most effective ways to improve farm productivity, strengthen agricultural value chains and make farming more attractive to a new generation of Nigerians.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Okoli Chijioke, in a statement yesterday, commended President Bola Tinubu’s continued emphasis on agricultural mechanisation as a key pillar of Nigeria’s food security, economic growth and agricultural transformation agenda.

Chijioken noted that its partnership with NADF forms part of the Federal Government’s broader agricultural mechanisation drive aimed at improving food production, food security and rural prosperity.

He recalled that in January, NADF announced a $70 million agreement with Agcoms International Trading Limited for the supply of 2,000 tractors and mechanised farming equipment, including 100 combine harvesters.

According to him, the initiative, which the Federal Government identified among the 40 key milestones achieved within the first two years of the Tinubu administration, also provided for the local assembly of the equipment in Nigeria to promote skills transfer, job creation and long-term technical capacity development.

He stressed that the scheme further incorporated operator training, maintenance support and after-sales services designed to ensure sustainability, maximise equipment utilisation and strengthen agricultural productivity across the country.

He said: “The mechanisation initiative was first announced by President Tinubu during his Independence Day address in October 2024, when he disclosed Federal Executive Council approval for the establishment of a local assembly plant for John Deere tractors, combine harvesters, disc ridgers, botton ploughs and other agricultural equipment as part of efforts to modernise Nigeria’s agriculture and boost food production.”

Chijioke, said the renewed national focus on mechanisation reflected a growing recognition of the role technology and modern equipment play in building a more productive and competitive agricultural sector.

“Agricultural mechanisation remains one of the most important enablers of productivity in modern farming. For mechanisation programmes to deliver lasting results, equipment deployment must be accompanied by operator training, maintenance systems, financing solutions and reliable after-sales support.

“When these elements work together, farmers are better positioned to improve efficiency, increase productivity and contribute meaningfully to national food security.

“We commend the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening agricultural productivity and are proud to contribute our technical expertise, equipment support capabilities and field experience to ongoing efforts aimed at expanding access to agricultural mechanisation across Nigeria,” he added.

He stressed that the sustainable mechanisation requires a long-term approach that combines equipment availability with technical support, skills development and reliable maintenance structures to ensure that investments deliver lasting value to farmers and farming communities.

As an authorised John Deere dealer and participant in agricultural mechanisation initiatives, he said Agcoms remains committed to supporting efforts that improve access to modern farm equipment, strengthen technical capacity and enhance productivity across Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
