Family of the abducted Edo medical doctor and his brother has appealed for financial support from the general public to raise the N100 million ransom demanded by gunmen to free the two abductees.

The two brothers, Abu Babatunde Momoh and Abu Tahir Momoh, were abducted on January 2, 2026, along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, while trying to access their residence.

The younger of the two brothers has, however, been killed in captivity. “With teary eyes and a heavy heart, I appeal to the public for prayers, support, and financial assistance during this extremely painful time”, Dr. Abu Babatunde Momoh’s wife said while making the appeal, describing the emotional trauma the family is enduring.

She confirmed that her husband and his brother, Abu Tahir Momoh, were forcefully taken from their residence by armed men, who later contacted the family with the huge ransom demand.

According to the family, any little contribution, no matter how small, could help secure the doctor’s freedom.

“The N100 million ransom is an impossible burden for us to bear alone. No amount is too small, and we plead for assistance and continued prayers,” the statement added.

Following the abduction of the two brothers, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State chapter, has threatened to suspend medical services in the state to protest the abduction and demand improved security for healthcare workers.

The Association expressed concern over rising insecurity in Edo State, lamenting that its members had become a prime target.

Meanwhile, friends and colleagues of the abducted doctor have continued to circulate the appeal across social media platforms, calling for urgent intervention.
